JOB PURPOSE
To manage and oversee the effectiveness and compliance of internal audit processes and corporate governance as well as ensure an effective control environment that enhances efficiency, mitigates potential risk and protects the assets of LEA, to help the organization achieve its overall objectives.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Develop internal audit policies and procedures to ensure effectiveness of internal audit function and adherence to international internal Auditing Standards.
- Prepare the annual audit programme for approval by Audit Committee and plans and schedules audit assignments by assessing risk, financial and operational, to ensure that target areas of high risk are addressed.
- Conduct audits and prepare audit reports and recommendations for LEA’s management and the Board on any significant weaknesses in internal control systems and procedures.
- Promote compliance with good Corporate Governance and best business practice to enhance public image of the Authority and minimize potential for fraudulent activities and professional malpractice.
- Contribute to the overall strategy development of the organisation.
- Review business and strategic objectives and make independent assessment to the Audit Committee on business strategies in relation to Authority’s statutory obligations and statutory regulations.
- Carry out investigations to detect and deter fraudulent activities.
- Ensure the implementation of audit programme and random audit inspections to optimize the role of internal audit in protecting the assets of the Authority.
- Subordinate effectiveness
- Review effectiveness of internal control systems and procedures and makes recommendations to protect the assets and revenue of the organization.
- Liaise with policy authorities in cases of suspected fraud.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Auditing or Finance, Accounting, Business or related fields.
- Certification in Internal Audit (CIA, CISA) will be preferred.
- Professional membership of a recognised institute (e.g. IIA, CIMA, ACCA, CIA).
- Member in good standing of IIA Botswana
- Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE
At least five years experience directly related to internal auditing in government, parastatal or private organisations.

JOB PURPOSE
The Data Protection Officer will be responsible for ensuring that the Authority processes organisational and personal data in line with the Data Protection Act, relevant legislation and industry standards. The role is also responsible for developing and managing the Authority’s personal data protection policies and processes and ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of organisation and personal data.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Coordinate and provide leadership in implementation and compliance to the Botswana Data Protection Act and related legislation within LEA through development of policies, guidelines and strategies to ensure compliance to the Act.
- Ensure that the Authority processes personal data in a lawful and correct manner, and recommend corrective action.
- Develop and implement data protection frameworks and governance policies related to protection of personal data within LEA.
- Advise the Authority on its obligation related to processing of personal data in compliance with the Data Protection Act.
- Coordinate and lead training of LEA staff on the Data Protection Act and compliance.
- Ensure the protection of the rights and freedoms of data subjects and that they are protected from any adverse consequences as a result of the processing of data by the Data Controller.
- Process requests related to collection and processing of personal data within the Authority.
- Conduct Data Protection compliance assessments and recommend remedial measures.
- Carry out data protection act risk assessments and remedial actions in liaison with the risk and audit management functions.
- Maintain an inventory and records for all data processing activities conducted by the Authority.
- Develop and implement the complaints procedure related to the Data Protection Act.
- Investigate and provide timely notification of any data protection breaches to the Commissioner.
- Prepare and submit mandatory reports to the relevant authorities as required by the Data Protection Act.
- Serve as the liaison officer between the Authority and the Data Protection Commissioner’s Office.
- Any other related duties to meet the exigencies of the service.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Data Science, Information Technology, Information Security, Risk Management or any relevant field.
- Certification in Data Protection or Privacy
EXPERIENCE
At least three years experience in a regulatory and compliance environment, personal data processing and protection as well as ensuring data security.
